A 30-day social media content calendar for small businesses

The hardest part of posting consistently is deciding what to post. Here are 30 days of ideas you can adapt to any small business, and a simple system to get a month done in one afternoon.

Three rules before you start

  1. Pick one or two platforms. Go where your customers already spend time. Posting well on one beats posting badly on five.
  2. Mix your posts. Aim for mostly helpful or entertaining posts, with a smaller share that sells. People follow accounts that give them something.
  3. Consistency beats volume. Three good posts a week, every week, does more than a burst of daily posts followed by silence.

Your four content types

Every post in this calendar fits one of four types, so you always know why you're posting it:

  • Teach: tips, how-tos and answers to common questions. Builds trust.
  • Show: behind the scenes, your process, your workspace. Builds connection.
  • Prove: reviews, results, customer photos. Builds confidence.
  • Sell: products, offers and launches. Turns followers into customers.

How to make a month of posts in one afternoon

  1. Plan (30 minutes): copy the calendar into a spreadsheet and fill in the specifics for your business.
  2. Shoot (1 hour): take all the photos and short videos at once, in good light.
  3. Write (1 hour): draft every caption. Start each with a line that makes people stop scrolling, and end with one clear next step.
  4. Schedule (30 minutes): load everything into a scheduling tool or your platform's built-in scheduler.
  5. Engage (10 minutes a day): reply to comments and messages. This is the part you can't schedule, and it matters most.

What to measure

Skip follower count as your main number. Watch these instead:

  • Saves and shares: the clearest signal that a post was useful.
  • Profile visits and link clicks: whether posts lead people toward your site.
  • Email signups and sales from social: use a separate link or discount code so you can tell.

At the end of the month, find your three best posts and make more like them next month.
